Dulima

$125.00

Cacica (Chief) Ibanasca guarded the Combeima river canyon region beneath the majesty volcano of Tolima. The Spanish burned her alive for being a “witch” that communed with the water, along with being a leader and medicine woman. It is said that she ascended to the speak of the volcano to become its protector, and renamed Dulima.

In Pijao cosmovision, Sun (Ta) and Moon (Taiba) represent opposing forces of cold and warmth. Chiri, is the moon spirit’s assistant and represents coldness. After failing to protect water from evaporation Chiri hides on the Dulima mountain peak as snow, often hidden by fog.

This earring represents these stories and geographies of Tolima, my homeland.
