This bag is made by the indigenous Arhuaco family of a friend from the Sierra Nevada of Colombia. The weaving technique used is called "anillado" and is a series of ring-like knots, a bag can contain thousands upon of thousands of knots. Woven within these knots are the thoughts of the weaver during the weeks it takes to make these bags.
The straps are made from a pre-loom technique that uses hand and feet to support for intricate weaving. Bags are often made from ethical shearing of sheep for wool that is then hand spun to make yarn, and used for weaving. From start to finish this ancestral practices takes time, and honors sustainable and ancestral memory. In short, slow fashion that upholds and preserves centuries of tradition.
